View Full Version : [fixed] memory requirements

I just clean installed Windows XP Pro onto my Core 2 Duo box that has 2GB RAM.

I did this because Vidblaster was blowing up nearly every time I used it--so I blamed Windows bloat ware.

Okay, so now I have WinXP, Office 2007, Adobe FME and Acrobate, and my audio Mixer driver on this PC.

VidBlaster and FME don't seem to play nice together for long durations, when VidBlaster is being used.
I mean if I leave the same camera take, and to little more than turn on/off the overlay/lower-thirds in VidBlaster, I often loose everything as FME goes bye-bye, or VidBlaster just freezes up. For example, if I ever do something stupid like realize oh, I need 3 cameras because screen capture requires it, then I do the Camera 3 thing and while its redrawing the screen, its lock up time.

If this isn't a logic bug, I'm wondering if its a memory issue. Is 2 GB good enough for 2 cameras and a screen capture streamed to FME and then out to ustream using their interface? I don't mind adding more (most other PCs around here have 4 GB in them) but they are either Macs or not available due to no FireWire cards.

2 GB is enough, although these days you just can't have enough memory :)

VidBlaster and FME (use the latest version though, see help) work fine. FME is buggy, but once it runs it will keep on running, many use this combo. FME is very resource hungry though, so are you keeping an eye on CPU usage? I understand you use firewire? That's a potential source of problems in itself, try moving to a framegrabber (and earn resources at the same time). Also try the standard Ustream client. If the problems don't go away, the problem may be in the PC itself.

Can you define "framegrabber"?

Small device that converts analog video to a digital signal. See How do I connect my cameras to VidBlaster? (http://vidblaster.com/forum/index.php?topic=153.0)

I just installed 4GB in my Core 2 Duo Dell Precision 390.

So far, things are not only working better with VidBlaster, they are actually staying up!
Probably just too much RAM being used for a 2GB machine. So if you too are having trouble with VidBlaster and FME combined, try bumping the RAM up to 4 GB, it may help.
