We have been using the EOS 7D and the EOS 600D in live environments with a hdmi 2 sdi converter. Awesome cameras if you need full HD, short dof or the ability to use different lenses.
For streaming purposes i would say they are overkill since you cant really use the full power of the camera. Maybe if you need a really wide angle or long zoom.
Remeber you dont get any autofocus with the DSLR...
Go for Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH2. Full res video out via HDMI, and auto focus. This is the DSLR you want!

@Daniel: Yes I know I won't get any autofocus with some of those beuties, but new Rebel's modell I heard allow kind of autofocus.
@Jakob: Thanks I never have a look at Lumix stuff, I will have a look.
For all my biggest concern is someone point that those HDMI OUTPUTS in "live mode" are not the same as the one the camera "sees" you guys had any issues with this?
I know that some or most canon DSLR's - even though they output on HDMI - have a somehow lower resolution on the HDMI out. Also, sometimes the menus are overlayed on the video out. This is not the case with the GH2. You get full res out and no menus.
I have been waiting for this cam for 6 month, and I am going to order it now. Its a hybrid cam, taking the best from 2 worlds. Check it out.

Jakob,
Do You know, if it's possible to film (sending signal via hdmi, not recording) and shooting pictures at the same time with GH2?

Jakob, I've been thinking of getting afew gh2's, they seem nice on paper but there's afew questions i would need answered before i take the plunge :)
1: can you send a liveview from the hdmi out, while the built in lcd is still on for the operator.
2: can you choose what resolution and framerate to output via hdmi?
3: does the camera overheat like Canon eos models do? Or can it record/send a live feed through hdmi continuessly?
If the gh2 can do all this i think it would be a very affordable and high quality solution for corporate events... And i would regret buying all my other cameras ;)

Heard from some guys they were having over heating problems with the DSLR (where it shuts down) when using them for long periods Live. anyone else had the same?

I had an overheating warning pop up on my Canon EOS 550d when I were shooting a corporate event, but I had to ignore it and nothing really happened to it. Maybe I was lucky, but the camera works fine. It did also continue to record through the warning.

We use d7000 on our setup and on my opinion are great. Downsite only record continius video for 20 min

Daniel, how do you get rid of the magnifying frame that is superimposed over the video from the Canon 600D (and its siblings)?
While searching for an answer I found that over heating (initially found in the 7D) seems to be taken care of in more recent models from Canon, but best to check for different brands/models.
Also, regarding Canon's DSLR:s, there is an interesting piece on "effective pixels"

And then something to get insipired by, when live streaming with DSLR :D

Need to check that when back at the office.
The RC idea is cool, we have been looking at a Microcopter and a Teradek cube to be able to stream HD-video with 7D from the air :)

Thanks Daniel, looking fwd to what you might know that nobody else seems to have fixed. The closest I have stumbled upon are firwmare hacks for the camera, but thats too much for me.
After playing a little bit with the Canonon 600D, Deckling Intensity Pro, VidBlaster 2.10 and the Camera II module I am ready to give up. Too buggy and too complicated setups. Things like that the deinterlacer does not work (goes black), and to get back I have to remove the camera module and add it.
Too bad, cause I also got some artistic ideas when playing with the nice DOF the DSLR offers.
The attached screen dump shows that the video signal does not fill the entire video image in VidBlaster. You can also see the annoying "magnifying frame" (white rectangle). And - the dof :) Can you spot one of the bugs I ran into?
I wonder if Jakob has found anything more regarding the GH2
