View Full Version : [done] Playlist (was: playlist and keying)

in addition to the multiple players you can have, what might be useful is a playlist for a player with drag and drop support. That way you could line up a list of clips to play.

It would also be really useful to have a chroma key and a luma ley for lower thirds that you could use with a still store.

What is the possibility of that?

I vote for this one as well, this way you can queue a bunch of stuff up and stream replays of shows when you are not live. This is what makes the tricaster so powerful you can stream 24/7 and while you may only be up live for a couple of hours you can have a playlist of pre-recorded shows.

If the person is recording what he is streaming. As soon as the file saved it would be available for playback. I replay my shows for about 6 hours due to living in Hawaii and most people sleeping when I am actually recording.

I just down loaded this software and I have to say it is the best thing next to slice bread except it is missing a play list!
And it would be nice to be able to record each camera separately so I could have a mixed live stream and raw footage for Post production.

Not sure why Mike put a strikethrough on my keying request, but I think that keying would make this into a real contender in the world of video switchers.

Please read the FAQ (http://vidblaster.com/forum/index.php?topic=232.0) if you don't understand my reason. One topic per request, this is very important for archiving and searching, as well as counting votes (how else do I know what people vote for?).

This would be great. But I would like to see a time start on it as well as manual start. And have the ability to set it as a full run through or sequential queing when used manually. That way if there were a lot of videos or advertixesments to play during a show you would only need one plater module for for all of them with just a little pre planning.

I KNOW this feature request is an older topic somewhere, i just couldn't reference it! But, I really need Video Player Module stringing.

I would like to identify player modules to be in a string group to play one after another and then loop back!

Player 1 --> goto --> Player 2 --> goto --> Player 3 --> goto --> Player 4 --> goto --> Player 5 --> goto --> Player 1

Mike, sorry for the repeat Topic!

Playlist feature would be very helpful.

I've been working on a concept for the playlist, and decided a separate Playlist module would be the most flexibel solution (instead of making a new player with fixed playlist). This way you can make as many playlist as you need and easily switch between them. See attached image. The idea is that you select the playlist in a player, just like you would select a video.

This is only a dummy, and I need to be adding more functionality, but let me know what you think.

I think that this could be made with the auto switch.

I echo Allan's sentiments.

Mike, looks like a great new feature!

Then on to fixing recording and creating an instant replay system. ;D A creative genius's work is never done!

Yes.

Can a playlist be nested in another playlist?

Had not considered that. I want to make it easy to add an(other) entire folder, but I can imagine this could be a powerful option. More work though.

Mike
25 Sep 2009, 17:17
BTW: do you think the name is right? I can imagine this module can also be used for easy file selection, maybe hook it up to an overlay so the next overlay in a sequence is automatically loaded? If so, Playlist might be confusing. Filelist?

Johan Lundberg
25 Sep 2009, 17:32
Looks really good Mike, I think this i right on target!

How about making it NOT TO automatically play the next file in the playlist?
Make the list "just a list", and add an option to make the player automatically play through it as a playlist.
This would also allow you to cue up the files you will be using for a show and in a very quick way manually change between them.

Edit: just re-read your last post Mike and think that's exactly what you had in mind! ;)

Mike, This looks really useful. For myself, I'm not sure how I would use it for overlays since I'm more of a visual person and I'm used to choosing the overlays from their look more than their name. The name "playlist" works for me just fine.

Mike you adding a playlist will allow me to become a 24/7 Network. As some of you know I have a Netcasting Network and I stream 5 shows a week. I also run my replays for the west coast after I am finished with my show. The issue I have is every time I want to change the Video I have to manually change it. With a playlist I can air a bunch of videos every day with no worries. For me this is a huge feature .

hope to see it soon

Mike, this is awesome, I am loving it...

Is it possible to add time to the playlist? in such a way that when you cue a video of about 30mins long for around 3pm the next video you cue will start at 3.30pm to run for its length... with this, one will be able to schedule a whole day show by time without any itch and it will create an awesome opportunity to schedule a certain show for a particular time everyday of the week which, I believed will make advertisement for a particular show easier and consistent. e.g. Watch "Roundtable with Mike every Wednesday 7pm". With this i can schedule all Roundtable show with Mike for 7pm on that particular day under the Playlist. or should we call it "Daily Schedule" ??

Many thanks and Kudos mate....

I have to chime in and say that a Playlist would be great. I'd also be a fan of a "clock" to show total time of clips and/or time remaining in clips.

I visited this site more than even Mike himself since i learnt of the Vidblaster Playlist and Chroma Keys. I have been checking and looking for the next update practically every hour to catch the glimpse it.

Kudos to you Mike, God bless you real good for this great software... with each and every individual's contribution, i am sure this software will be the best in the World, (though it is, anyway, in my opinion).

I've been working on this all week and am left wondering what to do with the check boxes that you can see in the screen shot. I can use them to check each file that has been played (but you can see what file is playing by a select bar), or I can use them to indicate what files need playing and what not (but then you can also remove files).

I am leaning towards using them to check each file that needs playing.

Any ideas, suggestions?

I think you are very right with the above, I'd prefer to check/indicate the videos or files need playing and what not from my playlist dumps.

Johan Lundberg
29 Oct 2009, 18:30
If there are to be checkboxes I think they should work as you describe with an activate/deactive function.

Have you thought about some way to be able to change the order of the files already in the playlist, ie dragging entries to a new location in the playlist, or moving up/down?

Also, what I would find extremely useful would be if it could somehow show the length of each clip, maybe even with a total playlist time.

Thoughts on this?

Johan

I would LOVE a playlist feature. Taking it one step further:

Might I suggest the ability to stream a playlist from a network location. In other words, it would be awesome to tell VidBlaster “this directory is the playlist directory. Any videos in this directory make up the playlist to stream.” That way we could automate our system to drop new videos into the directory as they are finished encoding, and have the playlist refresh dynamically.

Call it something like "Network Playlist" or something like that.

I'm looking at your live demo right now as I write this comment (sitting in a Subway train in Stockholm ;).

First of all, +1 for the idea (which is turning into reality it seems).

Then, would possible to manually select an entry in the playlist? I.e. load a number of clips/images and the swiftly select one, then another one, then a third one, and so forth. In other words, have two modes: 1) Play through the loaded and selected (checkmarked) entries; and 2) load and then manually selecting which clip to play by selecting (clicking) on it's entry in the list.
The latter would allow one to for example load a number of images, e.g. a deck of presentation slides, and then while producing a seminarar recording show slides from the speakers powerpoint (or Keynote).

I have just released v1.09 (http://vidblaster.com/forum/index.php?topic=697.0). The module is not done yet and no doubt will have bugs, but it should give you something to play with and provide more feedback.

Wonderful Mike, thanks!

A few things popped up in my mind:

1. Please clarify the connection Playlist->Player module
Took me a while to understand how the playlist is selected in the player (the drop down is called "File list", didn't know that ;) Suggest re-phrasing "Playlists" help section's first sentence to "Playlist modules hold a list of files. The playlist can then be selected instead of a file in any player module, which then in turn plays the list sequentially". And, in the "Playlist Module" help section change "The playlist can be used to source a Player module" to "The playlist can be used instead of a file as a source a Player module".

2. How about images in playlists?
I synched with a directory that contained both images and videos, it seems the player doesn't work well with the images. Suggestion: allow images, and have an "image display time" option (e.g. show a still for 5s).

3. Why are all files in synched directories alwayes checked?
It is not possible to uncheck files in a playlist synched to a directory.

4. Playlist reordering
It would be nice to be able to change to order by draggin a file to a new position.

5. Which file is playing?
When I click any file in the list the playlist highlights the one i clicked, not the one playing. Could be fixed by a different hightlight (e.g. green checkbox/arrow).

6. Manual (re)selection
If a file is playing, a double click on any other file in the list should start playing that file instead.

Finally, an idea struck me: Users could make the synched folder a folder shared over Internet using Dropbox, this way the playlist can be managed remotely. Even more endless possibilities with VIDBlaster!

I'm in agreement about selectign a file to play. Could it be tweaked so that when a file is double clicked it plays in the module? Though having said that it is possible for two player modules to be running the same playlist at different positions in the playlist so how this could be resolved is a mystery to me. Perhaps add some "playlist" functionality to the player module?

Also, slight bug. When it is playing in 2 modules and it goes to the next item in the playlist it goes to the next one not playing. IE if one player is on item 1 and the second on item 2, if item 1 finishes it jumps straight to item 3 missing item 2 and when item 2 finishes it jumps to item 4. They essentially leap frog each other.

You've probably figured it out by now, but...

Once you've loaded the playlist, then select "playlist" in a player's menu. Took me a while to fugure it out, too.

Good luck!

hello mike, great work here.

I am teting vb 1.09 with the playlist, but is it me or videos that are played dont have a good transition? like it jumps when passes from the first video to the second? like if you try using Windows media player with a playlist of videos it jumps to, the same happens here too.

thank you for the work.
