View Full Version : [fixed] Issue with "unused" Video effects

With v 1.33 Mike introduced:
Video Effect: if not used, video window updated @ low frame rate and priority, resulting in better overall CPU core load distribution and lower CPU usageI don't really understand how VidBlaster could know if an effect module is used or not, and/or what "unused" means. In any case, I have ran into an issue, not sure if it's a bug.

The problem is that when I have a few effect windows in a chain (e.g. effect 3 is using effect 2 as a source), my video starts flickering if I cut/trans to an effect inside the chain (e.g. effect 2). Selecting effect 3 works fine.
Or at least I think this is the problem, I am not sure. But I am sure that if I use multiple effect modules some of them flicker when selected. Something I guess has to do with the "low frame rate" thing.

I am e-mailing Mike a couple of profiles that have this problem. Tried both profiles on different machines with different graphic cards, same problems on both machines.

Anyone else had this problem? (note, appears in version 1.33)

Not sure if this is related. Flicker in Program Module when Video Replay & Video Effect are used. Re: 1.36

Minimal profile: Program, Camera1 (I) or (II), Video Replay, Video Effect

VideoReplay set to Camera1.
VideoEffect set to PIP, Fixed Aspect Ratio. Source1 = VideoReplay; Source2 = Camera1

When VideoReplay is selected the Program flickers. Anywhere from 1 flicker every 2-3 seconds to 3 flickers per second.

Tested this on dual core lap top and i7 desktop with same result. (both 1.36).

This "bug" is not present in 1.32, but is present in 1.33 using the same test profile.

I can confirm this issue. We have our VE active during the whole broadcast and switch through the preview bus. We see a lot of flickering in the program window that arent present in either camera or replay modules. Replay module causes severly more flickering than the camera inputs.

Confirmed for replay modules.

@Daniel, are you saying you have the same problem with the camera modules? I cannot explain this for v1.36, can you describe your exact profile to reproduce this please?

4 cam II modules, 1 replay, 1 VE doing chroma key. Foreground set to cam 4 and background set to preview. Switching between cam 1-3 + replay on the preview bus.

Audio, streamer, recorder, switcher, program, preview and TCP. 720x406@25fps.

Problem not present in 1.32

Mmm.. That doesn't really answer my question :(

Are you saying if you leave out the replay module in Tom's setup, and select a camera instead in VE module's Source 1, you see hickups in Program if you select Camera 1?

Yes, this is the case... Will give 1.36 a longer run tomorrow for sample video and more details.

No need, just wanted to make sure we are on the same frequency. I see you say II, it is not with I?

Havent done any real tests with cam I. Will give a try tomorrow. Have tried connecting the cameras through DV, composite and SDI. All give the same result...

I can't reproduce this, you Tom?

I'll give it a try today.

I can confirm Daniel's experience except...

It is the Preview module where the flicker occurs when Video Replay is selected for the Preview module. At this time the Video Replay is also selected as Source 2 in the Video Effects module.

The common factor seems to be the Video Effect having a Replay as a source.

Thanks Tom, but I already confirmed (http://forum.vidblaster.com/showpost.php?p=14136&postcount=6) (and fixed) this for the replay module. However here (http://forum.vidblaster.com/showpost.php?p=14142&postcount=9) Daniel confirms it is also in the camera module, which I cannot confirm.

Maybe I misunderstood. I will mark this topic as fixed.
