I uploaded a sample video of what I talk about below
http://avs-scratch.s3.amazonaws.com/piptest.mp4
Basically you will see the time is a different aspect ratio than the camera, and there is useless clutter above and below the timer.
I would like the ability to crop the video.
After looking at how you implemented the resize, I think you could do something similar with crop. When the mouse is over the upper left corner of the PIP window, the arrow appears and when you drag it to make the window smaller it crops it equally left + right if moved in or top + bottom if moved down.
Just my idea, you said you were reluctant because it should be done in camera, but in this case doing it in camera is impossible.
Why is it impossible to do cropping in the camera module? I haven't given it much thought, but feel that would be more powerful eventually.

Sorry I misread your original comment, you said the source. I thought that meant the camera itself. But yes cropping in the camera module sounds perfectly logical.

Cropping the camera would be very cool!
This topic continous as new topic Crop Camera/Player (http://vidblaster.com/forum/index.php?topic=284.0).
I thought about this some more and decided that although each source module should have a function similar to cropping, what Tom's asking here should go the the VE module after all. Reason is I do not want to change the aspect ratio of source modules, which is what Tom's asking for.
So by executive decision I am overriding err.... myself!

So, if I understand you right Mike, in this thread we still discuss, and hope for, the possibility to crop the sources as they are arranged in the VE (Video Effect) modules.

Just throwing in another motif for this kind of cropping - chroma key! Most importantly if the color screen (green/blue/pink or whatever) does not fill the camera window, cropping could fix that. And also minor border effects.
Just to make sure, this is what you want to achieve, right?

Yeah! At least I think so (hard to see in the small image, which others have been critizied for supplying ;)
Clearly cropped at top and bottom. Is it independently per edge? Can it be done on left/right as well?
That is what I have in mind yes, what you see is just a mockup.
Yes, I looked into that and it turns out vBulletin automatically resizes all images, and converts them to jpg too. Considering the storage problems I have, that actually is a good thing as the attachments of all my forums take up considerable space. This feature makes sure further grow is limited, so I decided not to change it. Unfortunately we'll have to remember this limitation and cut wisely.
Besides, small images also are easier to view inline.. Here's another attempt, keeping in mind the shot should not get too big. Note when uploading max. dimensions are specified.
I had to loosen the bounds a little as it was just impossible to upload any kind of discernible screenshot. This should illustrate what I was trying to show.
