I'm using a USB 2821 capture device, NTSC in VidBlaster Pro and as you can see the image is messed up. I opened adobe fme and found out that at certain resolutions the image would display like this, but it displayed properly at 720x480, 640x480 and 352x240.
The above would happen is 720x576 was selected and some other odd resolutions.
Is this something you can fix?
I can't fix it as it's a bug in the driver. What device did you buy and what version driver are you using? Maybe there's an update? If not, it may be possible to use a driver from a different manufacturer, but we need to get some more feedback for that. Or just avoid using PAL resolutions for NTSC cameras :)

That is my point, VidBlaster is selecting the wrong resolution. It seems to happen automatically I don't see any where in the VidBlaster Pro interface to select the resolution of the video, besides setting the resolution the entire program is running in.
VidBlaster needs to select the 720x480 or 640x480 when NTSC is configured.
If you select 640x480, that's what VB asks of the interface. What it returns may be something else but that's beyond my control. Please answer
1. what resolution do you select in VB?
2. what resolution is the interface in (right click | Info)?
3. what version of VB do you use?
4. what interface do you use (manufacturer, model and driver version)?

1. what resolution do you select in VB?
512x288
2. what resolution is the interface in (right click | Info)?
512x288
3. what version of VB do you use?
Pro
4. what interface do you use (manufacturer, model and driver version)?
StarTech Video Capture Cable, SVID2USB2. Latest driver off of website.
I set the Video Input to NTSC M, but it doesn't seem to "take" because no matter what video input I select it doesn't seem to change anything. Like it is not taking.
By the way it works in Wirecast and Adobe FME and WebcamMax, so I don't think the products drivers are to blame.
Ah, I did not know you were using such an old version. This is a known bug in the USB2821 drivers for which I added a workaround in later versions (which have only been released as Studio). I suggest you wait until a new Pro becomes available and see if it works for your model too.

So I installed the trial version of Studio on another computer to test this out. I have mixed results.
1) If I select 512x288 in VidBlaster the resolution of the USB2821 from 'info' changes to 488x288 and I get the split screen effect as pictured above. (488x288 is not a NTSC resolution)
2) If I select 640x360, the info changes to 720x480 and the video is correct
3) ditto for 720x406
4) If I select 854x480, the info changes to 640x480 (this is definetly an error and it would be best to take the 720x480 and resize to 854x480)
There is a separate but related problem. When the program first starts up and when I make these VidBlaster resolution changes I get a black empty screen for the video of the device. To remedy this I open adobe fme while vidblaster is running, select the usb2821 and click the configure button and select 'NTSC M'. After I do this the black screen is replaced by the video. Changing the video standard in VidBlaster has no effect.
I think you do not understand that these are errors in your driver. VidBlaster merely asks to select a certain resolution, and the driver then decides what to actually select. The fact that more are correct now is simply because I take into account some of the known bugs and already correct for them. So my question stands re the driver, try to find a better one before I invest more time working around more bugs. My time is limited ::)

Well except it seems that there is a bug in VidBlaster, changing the video standard in vid blaster doesn't actually change the video standard of the capture device.
Changing the video standard in every other program I've tried does work.
Irregardless of the situation with the resolution.
Yes, I will look into that.
Video Standard bug confirmed.
Eric,
Can you confirm this bug is fixed so I can close this topic?
Thanks!

Yes I just confirmed that switching the video standard now works.
