Hello. I'm John Rhodes, a newbie. I figured out how to get my GL2 to work just fine, by switching the camera to where I would begin to record. I tried to plug in my new Panasonic AG=HMC70P with its USB cord and couldn't get a screen image. It won't let me switch to the mode where I would press record and still keep the USB plugged in. When I switch it to regular USB mode it will only upload from the SD card...maybe if I remove the card. Its getting late in the day and I'll try that tommorrow but does anyone have experience with Panasonic cameras?

No Luck in Cisco,
John Rhodes

Hi John,

Your USB is only good for tranferring still photos from the Pany. Check the accessories that came with the Pany and see if you have an adapter cable that would be composite (yellow, white, red) on one end and single on the other. Or maybe you have a firewire port on the Pany. Check your owner's manual. That'll get your going.

Good luck!

I think my Hp has an s-video port, or could I use the DVI port? Can I use them in some way? How would I use the composite cables? Is there cheap video switchers that I can get to change composite to DVI or s-video or usb or fire wire? My computer I am using is the HP DV9700.
Where is s good place to look for cables?

This is John Rhodes about hooking up his Panasonic again. Hopefully this link will work. Are there any plugs I might use here on this link if I have an s-video port? What would that be?

John,

From what I can tell the specs on your Pany are:

Composite: BNC (x1 Input, x1 Output)
Component: BNC (x1 Input, x1 Output)
HDMI: HDMI (x1 Output)
Audio: RCA (x1 Input, x1 Output)
Microphone: Stereo Mini Jack
XLR: XLR 3-Pin (x2 Input)
USB: USB 2.0 Type B

From what I can tell the specs on your HP include a firewire port, USB, and s-video.

Whether one of those adapter will work, I can't say. The EasyCap will definately work. It connects to your HP's USB port and gives s-video and composite options. Available on eBay. If you have Vista, make sure you get the Vista version (about $35US).

Thanks for your attention. I was stuck on the fact of the component and composite. The Panasonic Camera calls it's connections Component not composite. Are they interchangeable? I was looking at this converter: http://www.svideo.com/ypbpr1080i.html . They have a simple 480i converter too on that site. I think that is what I'm going to try. Tech supports at different companies gave me a hard time about calling component composite. I was then going to plug it into this thing: http://sewelldirect.com/USBVideoCaptureAdapter.asp. Is that too much hardware?
P.S. I hope this is close to my last post about this subject as time is money. Any advice is apreciated.

P.S.S. Thought I'd share this site: http://pegmedia.org . A great place to share videos. Besides sharing videos they share Public Access TV shows.
Yours, John Rhodes
