View Full Version : 7-20 Second Audio De-Sync in 1.02 (not 1.05) [SOLVED]

Long time user of VidBlaster... ran into my first major show-stopping hurdle this weekend. Here's how it went down.

Prior to everything, I was running v1.0. Then I needed to reload my OS.

I was rather excited to be putting v1.05 on my system because I've recently been playing with delivering the stream to multiple providers and this version would make it easier for me. Got everything up and running, did a quick test, everything looks great.

BUT IT WASN'T! And this was my own fault for not double checking prior to going on air for the show.

But as soon as I got on air everyone began reporting a 7-20 sec Video/Audio Desync. Since my reload NO HARDWARE has changed, I've not added anything new externally (Mixer, Camera, etc). I did approximately 57 shows without any Sync issues on v1.0 and prior.

My setup is as follows:

- All Audio run through mixer and back into Sound Card
- HD Camera setup and Captured via HDMI Capture Card

I'm completely at a loss. My next course of action is to uninstall v1.05 and then go back to v1.0 just to see if it could be anything with my config/setup. At that point I will try to go to each new version and see if I can find out where the error is introduced, or perhaps installing v1.0 again will help me isolate a problem on my machine (which I'm pretty convinced isn't the issue).

I'm hoping that someone else might have some insight into this issue or maybe even experienced it themselves.

If you can reproduce this (and it wasn't a Ustream problem) check CPU usage, sync errors are usually a sign of excessive CPU usage.

Thanks Mike, I'll definitely report back with my findings. The one difference I didn't mention was I originally had tried the One-Click Streaming for that broadcast. Additionally, I was using FME to send to J.tv. I know my CPU was fairly high, but I don't believe it was any higher than it was when using previous versions.

As I mentioned, I'll be doing a bunch of testing so we'll find out soon enough!

Oh an additional detail of note:

I was wrong, it's not v1.05, i'm currently on v1.02.

I've resolved this issue!

It wasn't CPU...
It wasn't VidBlaster...

After extensive testing I found out it was the NEWEST version of the BlackMagic Intensity Pro drivers! Which is good and bad. Good that I found it and resolved it... bad that I had to roll back to version 2.1 (new drivers are like 3.5).

In a nutshell, the new version of the drivers decided to drop support for 1080i 60fps. As best as I can tell the program which captures my camera from HDMI was taking 30 of 60 frames. So as I went on and on, the delay got worse. It was very strange, but installing the old 2.1 drivers made it work perfectly! Back to 1:1!

Thanks for sharing. The BMIP is a nice and cheap card, but it's not plug & play for most. Yet.

Totally agree. It is great for me since I have such gaming heavy content. It allows me to use my HDMI Camera but also capture footage from 360 and PS3's. I noticed there are some new products coming out on the market soon that might make the job a bit easier, we'll have to see how that goes once I get my hands on them :D
